And it's probably not what you're thinking. No, today is the day that my oldest is eligible to get her learner's permit, which in this state, means she is 15 years and 7 months old. We sort of have a scheduling problem though, as she has been having dance rehearsals every day after school until 5pm in preparation for their upcoming winter concert next Thursday. Tomorrow, the marching band is leaving for a long weekend trip to California, so it will be at least sometime next week before we even consider getting the permit.
I'm thinking I finally am going to have something to hold over her head that she cares about. I'm glad she's a well-rounded kid, is in dance and flags and sports and all, but somethings gotta give, and that something seems to be her grades at the moment. When she finds out that she's not going to drive without a B average, maybe that will motivate her to pay more attention to her grades. She's just got so much going on that I think her poor brain can't process everything at once, and I think assignments get "forgotten." Well, we'll see how badly she actually wants to drive. I'm a bit frustrated with her at the moment. If I hear "But I forgoooottttt!!!" one more time, I may have to do some neck-wringing.

I suggest getting a cheap car for her to use, or allowing her to use your car. My parents got me a $500 car, and I was so excited. I didn't realize it at the time, but I became a slave to my parents. Before I could go anywhere with the car, I had to shuttle all my brothers and sisters around to their events. It was an effective technique
Don't you wonder what kind of hormones they produce to make them so "forgetful?" I hear that all the time from Ian. "It's not my fault, I just forgot!". I bought that BS from Logan but I'm wise to the crap now.
Good idea to hold that carrot in front of her, it'll work.
Hmmmm, Precious Youngest too has a lot of convenient amnesia. We have found that since car = freedom; taking it away is a great motivator.
We all need something. For my son right now it's withholding the rights to his go-cart, for daughter it's not letting her go to singing. Glad I'm not the only one who admits to seriously needing something to hold over their heads. Better then beating them I figure. :)
Donkey - My in-laws are supposedly going to be giving her my mother-in-law's old car, and getting MIL a new one. I think it's a 2000 Toyota .. Corolla, maybe? Because it's my in-laws, I'll believe it when it's sitting in my driveway. I know they have good intentions, but things just don't always seem to work out, with them. You do make a valid point. Thanks for droppping by. :)
The whole "It's not my fault, I forgot!" thing makes me insane. And it's only ok if they do it. God forbid YOU forget to do something that they asked you to do. What if I "forget" to fix dinner, think that would be ok? Ha!
We will be here in a year...I'm taking notes! ;)
