Broken Hearts

I think I just got some idea of how Shannon is going to feel when she gets here. She just called me, and she was sobbing her heart out. She said goodbye to the friend she was staying with today, and now she has just said goodbye to Michael, her boyfriend. She was crying so hard she could barely breathe. And she was at my parents' house, alone. They are in North Carolina, and Danni won't be home from work for another 40 minutes or so.

It's times like these that every snotty remark, every eyeroll, and everything they have put you through goes right out the window. I just want to make this better for her. I want to make this not hurt. I want to give her the gift of hindsight, so she can understand that this will pass, she will feel better, and life will go on. And I can't. There's nothing I can do to make her feel better right now.

And my heart is breaking.

awww, Mom..she'll pull through.

My Girl is 23. She called me one day while I was out shopping. She was crying just the same as Shannon. Her first words to me were "I hate boys". You're right, all the eye rolling and mean things went right out the window and all I could say was, Yes Boys are stupid.

I hope Shannon jumps in quickly to all the good things CO has to offer. Oh, and skype is free, she can talk to him every day. Like I do with CGMan all the way over in Abu Dhabi.

Just wanted to say that I've been there - from her end - maybe we all have? I moved to a new state in the middle of high school, left a great group of friends and a boyfriend who I was of course convinced was The One. And it sucked.

My dad signed me up for drivers ed at the local high school and there I met a friend who introduced me to another friend who turned out to still be my best friend to this day. And you know at the time it was just ::grumble grumble drivers ed:: but it made all the difference. Here's hoping that the sports team stuff does the same for her this summer. It's really nice to get to meet some of the kids at the school BEFORE the school year starts so that's awesome.

As for the broken hearts and missing old friends? That's what shopping, chick flicks and ice cream are for. You might not be able to make it all better, but you can grieve alongside her and supply the chocolate.

I've been there too. Moved between elementary and middle school and AGAIN between middle and high school. Three different states. And look! I lived through it! She will too.
